The Islamic administration holding the control of Bardhere town, Gedo region has banned people from carrying weapons in the town.

The move is seen as a big step forward in the process of restoring stability to the town days after the tribal militias have been ousted from power.

Only Islamist forces would be allowed to carry weapons, he said.

The security chief of The Barre Qoje told Shabelle that they’ve issued the weapons-outlawing decree to make the city free from illegal weapons.

« Anyone who fails to abide by these rules will be brought before the court, » he said.

However, he says the dealers were allowed to keep their weapons.

Somalia is awash with guns after 16 years of civil war.
