Sana’a, Yemen, September 1st, 2013

Subject: Information to be shared on the request for release of Mr. Mohamed Saleh Alhoumekani, key witness in the case of French judge Bernard Borrel, found dead in Djibouti in 1995 .

The Canadian Centre for Overseas Development (CCOD), located in Canada, learned with astonishment about the arrest of Mohamed Saleh Alhoumekani last weekend in Sana’a, Yemen .

Mr. Alhoumekani was a former presidential gard officer and key witness in the case of French judge Bernard Borrel, found dead in Djibouti in 1995. He was arrested by Yemeni police at the request of Djibouti authorities while visiting the capital Sana’a .

Mr Alhoumekani who lives in Brussels (Belgium) and hold its citizenship, is a fierce opponent of the bloody Djibouti regime. He had dared to point out the current Djibouti President Ismael Omar Guelleh and his cronies for their involvement in the murder of the French judge Bernard Borrel .

According to the lawyer Alhoumekani’s family, Mr. Modrikamen: “ Mohamed Saleh Alhoumekani was removed Saturday from the main prison in Sana’a and sent to an unknown location « probably in a central YemeniIntelligence prison. The family fears his extradition to Djibouti which is completely illegal. We therefore calls for « immediate diplomatic protection from Belgium to its citizens. » The lawyer, who will hold a press conference on Monday, asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders to take a personal and quick step to put an end to this issue .

The CCOD, supported by its advisory board, fears the extradition of Mr. Mohamed Saleh Alhoumekani to Djibouti, as well as the risk of torture and physical elimination at Djibouti authorities hands .
