It was with deep shock and sadness that we heard of the devastating loss of the Great Artist of Afars and the Republic of Djibouti Mr. ABDALLAH ABDOULKADER ABASS known as ABDALLAH LEE on 18/09/2007, in Poitiers- France. Mr. Abdallah Lee has been regarded as an Exceptional & Extraordinary Afar Artist in the Republic of Djibouti. He was a man of honour and the man of principle with dignity.

Mr. Abdallah Lee was entirely respected and admired by the whole Afars and non-Afar communities, because of his solidarity, commitment, and support towards others. His death has not only left emptiness and imbalance among his family, friends and Afar society but also among the whole music and cultural industries in Djibouti.

In the name of the Afar Community Association in UK & Republic of Ireland, we would like to convey our deepest sympathy and sincerest condolences to the wife, children and immediate relatives of Mr. Abdallah Lee. We Afar community living in the UK & Republic of Ireland share with all our hearts the deep sorrow of his wife, members of his family, relatives, and the people of Republic of Djibouti.

My Allah the Almighty Put His Soul in His Internal Peace.

The Afar Community Association in UK has recently organized the first UK Afar Cultural Event in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.The aim of the event was to bring together the dispersed and divided Afar Community living in the UK, to celebrate and raise awareness about Afar heritage and promote community cohesion by building links with other communities, service providers and local Authorities to meet the needs of the Afars in the UK.

Mr. Abdo Youssouf, the President of ACA said that the event has brought together considerable numbers of the Afar community, local people from diverse cultural backgrounds, other voluntary and statutory service providers, cultural organizations and representatives from Ethiopian Diplomatic Mission in London.

The Afar Cultural Celebration Event was opened by the Deputy Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Councilor Mohammed Shahid Ali. Speeches were delivered by the President of ACA Mr. Abdo Youssouf, Ms. Karen Zamboni, representative from UK Overseas Development Organisation and Volunteer Coordinator Mr. Adan Bodaya. We were delighted to see Mr. Roberto Zamboni, a former Manger of Bank of Italy who specially came to London to participate in the UK Afar cultural Celebration Event said Mr. A Bodaya.

The event will promote intercultural understanding and community cohesion; increase participation and involvement, self-confidence and social solidarity amongst Afar Community in the UK and promote participation said Mr. Houmed Mohamed, Secretary of ACA.

The event will have a multiplier effect by enabling access of isolated and disadvantaged members of the community to existing services. It would be really good to see more events in future, said Mr. Sadik Mohamed Rouffa,

This kind of event will help people to extend access and participation in the Community, said Mr. Abdourahim Houmed Gaba Maki the Deputy Secretary of culture of ACA.

This celebration will provide opportunities for people to get involved and participate in the life of the community, said. Mr. Daoud Houmed.

Mrs. Kadiga Houssein Aden – I believe the event will sustain a healthy community sprit, help to extend access to preserve our cultural heritage and history in the UK. It was really wonderful! It will help to increase skills and creativity of all participants, said Zahra Kassim.


It was amazing! So, there is no doubt that this will help to increases cultural awareness, understanding of the Afar heritage and its contribution to the heritage of the UK, said, Mr. Ahmed Yacin Issa, President of the Afar Friends in Sweden.

This event will promote better understanding of different people, places and cultures in the local community and to increase involvement from people who face barriers to participation, said Mrs. Asya Omar, from Afar Friends in Sweden.

OF COLONEL HAISSAMA MOHAMED HOUMED

! INNAA LILLAH WA INNAA ILAYHI RAAJI OUN!

Afar Community in the United Kingdom is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Colonel HAISSAMA MOHAMED HOUMED of the Republic of Djibouti on 29/01/2006, in Djibouti. Colonel HAISSAMA has been described as the most skilled, knowledgeable, experienced and honest Djibouti’s No1- by the French Military Academics and his colleagues equally, due to his intellectual ability, wise leadership, social justice and solidarity. He has served his country and people with distinction at all time. Under his wise leadership, Djibouti’s National Army has achieved a high international standard of progress and modernisation. During the most difficult times he won praise and gratitude for tirelessly working for the restoration of Djibouti’s sovereignty and independence. He will be remembered by many for his wisdom, modesty, generosity, professionalism, courage, and kind attitude.

The President of Afar Community Association in UK, Mr Abdou Youssouf, would like to extend his heartfelt condolences deepest sympathy to the Children, families and immediate relatives of Colonel HAISSAMA, the Government, and people of the Republic of Djibouti and grieve together with them.

May The Almighty Allah bestow His mercy upon him and rest his soul in His internal Peace.

It was with deep shock and sadness that we learned of the tragic and devastating loss of great people of Afar families, Mr. Abdallah Kadamy, Mrs, Housseina Mohamed, Mrs, Kadiga Dagueh and Mrs Walhi Abdo, on 28 and 29 June, 2005, both in Djibouti and France.

They have been regarded as the Great and God Father & Mothers, Politicians, Supporter, Helpers and Friends. They will be remembered by many people, because of both in their characters and in their benevolence, and supportiveness towards others. They were greatly respected and admired by the entire Afars and non-Afar communities in Djibouti.

They left behind heavy domestic and family responsibility for the Afar community of Djibouti, because their death has left emptiness and imbalance among their family, relatives and friends.

In the name of the Afar Community Association in UK , we would like to convey our deepest sympathy and sincerest condolences to the COLONEL HAISSAMA, Children & Relatives of the death of his great wife Mrs. Housseina Mohamed and as well as to the family, children and immediate relatives of both Mr. A Kadamy, Kadiga Dagueh and Walhi Abdo. We Afar Community living in UK share with all our hearts the deep sorrow of these great families, children and relatives.

STATEMENT
BY THE AFAR COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION IN UK

Afar Community Association in UK is now officially recognised
by the British Government as a Registered Charity.

Firstly, we are very pleased
to inform that the Charity Commission for England and Wales now satisfyingly
and delightfully approves the governing document of the Afar Community Association
in the UK and it has been entered in the Central Register of Charities for
England and Wales. Becoming a registered organisation, like thousands of others,
will help facilitate the needs of the Afar Community in the UK and to successfully
achieve sustainable charitable objectives and aims set out in the Article
3 of the ACA.

Secondly, we would like
to highlight that the Afar Community Association in UK "ACA" shall
be a voluntary, self-help, social and cultural oriented non-profit making
organisation. It shall be a strictly non- political organisation. It shall
operate both inside and outside England and Wales; e.g. Europe-United Kingdom-
Africa- Ethiopia, Djibouti and Eritrea.

Thirdly, the organisation
is governed by the constitution adopted on 20 November 2003, as amended on
15 January 2005. Its objects are as follow: – "to relieve poverty, in
particular, but not exclusively, for the Afar Community by the provision of
advice on education, employment and health advocacy and representation in
the interest of social welfare with object of improving the conditions of
life for the said inhabitants. 2- To advance the education of the Afar Community
by the provision and training on subjects such as, literacy classes for adults
and the Afar language and to provide general advice, information and support.
3- To advance education in the Afar traditions and folklore by the provision
of cultural and social events. 4- To promote any charitable purposes for the
benefit of the public as the trustees or management committee determine from
time to time".

Moreover, the Association
was not only set up to address the needs of the Afar community in the UK but
also to address the needs of the all Afar people in the Horn of African States.
Also, notably, it is not only representing the Afar people and their traditions
and folklore but also it is representing the multicultural societies of the
Horn of Africa. It is a fact that, both Management Committee and members of
the organisation is made up of individuals who came from four different countries
such as Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia. The Membership is open to
all Afars and for those who accept and support the principles and objectives
set out in the Article 3, and the terms and conditions of membership of Article
5 paragraph (a).

Furthermore, the MC of
the ACA would like to work closely in partnership both with governments and
statutory institutions of Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, UK and the Afar Regional
State in Ethiopia, and Afar Pastoralist Development Association (APDA), Afar
Friends in Sweden and UDC in Djibouti in particular, and with NGOs voluntary
sectors in general to; advance education and culture; relieve sickness, poverty,
and famine; and promote good health and social well being of the Afar people
and of those who are disadvantaged in society. Similarly, we wish to establish
friendly co-operation with the people of the Horn of Africa to develop the
exchange of information, advice, and experiences and to facilitate the needs
of our people.

Additionally, this organisation
is for all Afars and for those who are fully committed to accepting and supporting
the fundamental principles and objectives of the ACA. The service of the ACA
is open to anyone regardless of their nationality, sex, agenda, political
opinion, religion and social status. Discrimination on any grounds is prohibited.

Besides, the ACA unites
and links the Afar community divided between boroughs of London; connect the
Afars to other local communities and statutory service providers. This organisation
does not belong to any particular individuals or group. It belongs to all
Afars. All members shall have the right to express their view freely and democratically.
We are encouraged all Afars living in the UK to fully involved in the ACA
activities.

Should you have any comments,
suggestions, or complain, please do feel free to come to the Community Centre
to discuss the matters with the Management Committee at any time you may wish
to do so. The MC is very happy to help or deal with your enquiries.

Finally, we would like
to convey our gratitude to the Bridge House Trust and S.t. Katherine &
Shadwell Trust for their financial assistance that has been given us to set
up the Afar Community Association in UK. We also would like to express our
thankfulness to the Community Organisation Forum for Tower Hamlets and the
COF Staff for their friendly co-operation and unlimited assistance that has
been, and is giving us. Special thanks go to all members and friends of the
ACA both in the UK and overseas for their practical support and advice, which
have been given us to develop the efficiency and structures of our organisation.
