31/05/08 (B450) Attaque de l’aéroport de Gaalkcayo au Puntland – Contrairement à une dépêche précédente, celle-ci fait état de 10 morts et 21 blessés. Ten dead in Puntland airport attack (En Anglais – Info lecteur)

Heavy missile attacks on the Gaalkacyo airport in Somalia’s Puntland region have left 10 airport guards dead and 21 civilians injured.

The airport’s air traffic control room was destroyed as a result of the attacks and all flights were canceled, Press TV correspondent in Mogadishu said.

Gaalkacyo is the most important city in the northeastern Somali region of Puntland, which declared its autonomy in 1998. The Gaalkacyo airport is located north of the city.

Airport officials blamed the attacks on armed men from the Sacad clan in south Gaalkacyo.

Our correspondent says the attack may have been triggered by a tribal dispute between the Sacad and the Majeerteen clan loyal to President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed.

Gaalkacyo airport has been under the administration of the Majeerteen, which has refused to let Sacad members have a post in the airport, our correspondent says.
