The incident happened overnight Sunday at 54th Military Camp, which is located in the northern outskirts of Garowe, the capital of Puntland.

Medical sources at a hospital in Garowe said two soldiers are being treated for gunshot wounds, with reports saying one of the wounded soldiers is in « critical condition. »

Puntland military officials declined to comment on the incident, but sources said 37 rifles and boxes full of bullets were stolen from the base.

The group of men who stole the weapons are reportedly Puntland soldiers, many of whom have complained about months of nonpayment.

Angry soldiers have stolen weapons from the Puntland government before, with most of those weapons ending up in neighboring separatist region of Somaliland.
