Heavy fighting has erupted in Mogadishu’s Aden Adde Airport after an airplane defied a warning by insurgents and landed in the airport.
At least 6 soldiers were killed and more than 10 were injured in Friday’s heavy clashes in the international airport and the nearby neighborhoods, the Press TV correspondent reported.
The sound of several explosions could be heard from the airport.
Fighters affiliated with the al-Shabab group, an offshoot of the Union of the Islamic Courts (UIC), have claimed responsibility for the attack.
The group had earlier warned that it would not allow any airplanes to land in the airport.
