// Ahlu Sunna takes control of provincial town

Ahlu Sunna Waljamaca took control of Dhusamareb town after fierce fighting that killed at least 5 people and injured more than 10 others between Islamist fighters of Ahlu Sunna and Al-Shabaab early Thursday in the regional capital of Galgaduud region in central Somalia, Shabelle’s Abdikarin Bulhan reported.

Residents say the warring sides used heavy weapons during the fighting and the sound of gunfire could be heard around the city.

The fighting started after Ahlu Sunna fighters with armoured vehicles attacked the town from two sides.

The group Ahlu Sunna defeated al-Shabaab in Guriel town in fighting that killed 30 people on the 11th of this month including top al-shabaab officials as the Shabaab spokesman, Sheik Mukhtar Abu Mansoor confirmed.

Reports from the city say that the fighting stopped and the situation of the town is reportedly calm now.

Ahlu Sunna Waljamaca is a moderate religious organization with no political ambition but Al-shabaab militant group is fighting for to rule the country and impose their version of Sharia law.

Al-shabaab has been capturing towns for the last two months, but since the Ethiopian troops withdrew their popularity decreased.

Shine Moalin Nurow who contacted radio Shabelle from Hudur town in Bakol region said they would recapture Baidoa from al-Shbaab soon.

“We are amassing troops in Hudur to attack Baidoa and drive out those who attacked us,” Said Shine Moalin.

Biadoa has been the seat of the transitional parliament for the last two years. The lawmakers are preparing to elect a president on Friday afternoon in Djibouti, but al-shabaab rejected to be part of the peace process.
