De récents combats entre les milices islamiques Al Shebaab et Ahlu Sunna Waljama font au moins 30 victimes. // Fresh fighting leaves 30 dead in Somalia

Fighting between al-Shabaab and Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a militants has reportedly left 30 people killed and 50 others injured in central Somalia.

The fighting broke out Sunday morning after Ahlu Sunna Waljma’a forces attacked Wabho village in central Galgadud region, over which al-Shabaab fighters had control. Both sides used heavy machine guns and artillery fire.

Civilians have, meanwhile, started to flee the areas where the two groups engaged in fighting. Ahlu Sunna and al-Shabaab have fought in central Somalia for a number of times.

Ahlu Sunna Waljamca is a moderate religious faction that does not have a political ambition and supports the new government led by president Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed.

Al-Shabaab, nevertheless, has vowed to keep on fighting against the new government despite the fact that Somalia’s new Cabinet on March 10 endorsed the implementation of Islamic law (Shria) after an hour-long debate in the capital, Mogadishu.

Somalia, situated in the Horn of Africa, has been the scene of a deadly civil unrest since the ouster of former president Mohammed Siad Barre in 1991.
