_______________ Lettre aux représentants américains

Afar Action Alliance

To: US House of Representatives
Committee on Foreign Affairs
Washington DC, 20515
Attention: Chairman Ileana Ross

For over 33 years the Djiboutian people have been living under oppression. The Djiboutian people have been denied basic living necessities. The government has exercised violence against it own people. Displacing, maiming and killing indiscriminately.

His excellence president Obama said “The United States will continue to stand up for the rights of the people and work with their government in pursuit of a future that is more just, more free and more hopeful, this is our time to turn rhetoric into action, we urge our administration to seize the chance, embark on a new course toward peace, democracy and prosperity for the people”.

This is want we wish for the people of Djibouti. On February 10th 2011 Amnesty International condemned human rights abuse in Djibouti.

The Guelleh’s government has relied on Particular on a “dangerousness” provision of the criminal code that allows authority to imprison individuals before they have committed a crime on the suspicion that they might commit an offence in the future. There is no question the Djibouti government bears full and exclusive responsibility for the abuse it commits.

Demands that we want met; are that Ismail Omar Gelleh should not run for third term as president of Djibouti. He must allow Djiboutian people to establish a new government free from him. There must be free and fair elections clean from nepotism and family favouritism. Djibouti people must be free.

There will be demonstration on the 18th of February 2011 in Djibouti. These demonstrations are to be conducted peacefully and freely. People from all walks of life in Djibouti including civil servants are to participate in this exercise of democracy. Ismail Omar Gelleh has no confidence in his police force.

Ismail Omar Gelleh should be advised to refrain from using the 500 Somali police training in Djibouti supervised by Ugandan officers. He has in the past used them against dissidents and to patrol the City of Djibouti on the 31st of December 2010. We Djibouti Americans want our government to be aware Djibouti situation.

Please share this statement with members of your committee. In addition would be very grateful if you would include this letter in the record of your hearing.

Thank you Madam Chairman.
