08/07/08 (B455) PRESS TV : huit morts en Somalie à la suite d’une dispute pour une parcelle de terre. 8 killed over land dispute in Somalia (En Anglais – Info lecteur)

At least eight people are killed and more than 15 others wounded in a dispute over a piece of land in Somalia’s central town of Cadaado.

The fighting broke out as a dispute over the ownership of a piece of land in Cadaado, in Somalia’s Mudug region turned violent, Press TV correspondent reported, Sunday.

Five local policemen are said to be among the casualties, the report added.

In another development in Somalia, thousands of civilians are fleeing the Hiiran region after they heard Ethiopian troops are heading back to the region. The rumors are seeming to gain traction as presence of Al-Shabbab fighters and combatants from the Union of Islamic Courts is already visible in the area.

There is a fear that a possible encounter between the rebels and Ethiopian troops would result in violent clashes in the region.

Somalia has been without an effective central government since President Siad Barre was removed from power in 1991.

Years of fighting between rival warlords and an inability to deal with famine and disease have led to the deaths of hundred of thousand people.
