Somalie: La LDDH Condamne
l’assassinat du Pacifiste ISSA ABDI ISSA.

La situation
des droits humains ne cesse d’empirer en Somalie. Depuis quelques semaines
plusieurs civils innocents ont perdu la vie suite à la recrudescence
des affrontements entre l’armée gouvernementale de transition appuyés
par les Troupes éthiopiennes et des insurgés non identifiés.

Le regain de violence avec, en particulier, les bombardements à l’artillerie
lourde dans la capitale Somalienne a contraint des dizaines de milliers d’habitants
de Mogadiscio à fuir vers des zones plus sûres.

La Ligue Djiboutienne des Droits Humains reste vivement préoccupée
par la situation des civils et des défenseurs des droits humains dans
ce pays voisin et frère.

Ainsi, jeudi dernier, le pacifiste, mondialement connu, ISSA ABDI ISSA directeur
de l’ONG « Peace and development » basée à Mogadiscio
est tombé sous les balles de tueurs dans un hôtel de Mogadiscio.

QUE DIEU TOUT PUISSANT GARDE SON AME EN PAIX

La Ligue Djiboutienne des Droits Humains (LDDH) profondément choqué
par cet assassinat aveugle :

  • Condamne
    fermement les violences armées visant les défenseurs des
    droits en Somalie ;
  • Demande
    au gouvernement de transition, ainsi qu’aux forces d’occupation de veiller
    à la sécurité des défenseurs et leur permettre
    de poursuivre leur travail en toute liberté.
  • Plus
    généralement, de garantir et respecter le travail des défenseurs
    telle que reconnu par la Déclaration des défenseurs adoptée
    le 9 décembre 1998 par l’Assemblée générale
    des nations Unies.

EHAHRD-Net CONDEMNS MURDER OF A HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDER IN SOMALIA

The
East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders’ Network (EHAHRD-Net) has received
profoundly shocking news about the murder of Mr. Isse Abdi Isse, the Chairperson
of Kisima Peace and Development Organisation based in Mogadishu
.

According to information obtained from the Somali Human Rights Defenders Network,
the focal point of the East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Network,
Isse (RIP) was murdered Wednesday night in Mogadishu where he had been to
attend a workshop on psycho-social situations of children affected by floods
and civil wars, organised by the Trans-cultural Psycho-social Organisations
(TPO). « Mr. Isse was one of the few prominent figures who sacrificed
their lives for the promotion of human rights in Somalia ; in particular,
laying the foundation for developing a vibrant human rights organisation in
the Jubba regions.

We as a Network,
highly condemn the targeted killing of Mr. Isse. We strongly feel that his
murder is related to his work as a human rights defender and therefore call
on the government of President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed, to investigate into
this murder and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice, »
says Hassan Shire Sheikh, the Chairperson of EHAHRDP/Net.

Background
Kisima Peace and Development Organisation based in Kismayo, was founded in
1998 with a mission to empower urban and rural communities to become self-sufficient
through development achieved through a rights-based approach. The organisation’s
areas of focus include peace building and the promotion and protection of
human rights. The organisation also places a great emphasis on gender mainstreaming
through advocacy and networking, and their overall objective is to contribute
to achieving sustainable peace and stability for the people of Kismayo and
eventually, for Somalia as a whole.

APPEAL

The
Network appeals to the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) to investigate
into the murder of Mr. Isse Abdi Isse and ensure that those responsible are
duly brought to book.

EHAHRD-Net
further calls on the TFG to guarantee protection of human rights defenders
in the country,

The Network
also implores the international community to keep watch over unfolding events
in the country to prevent a repeat of such killings.
