Many assassination attempts have been made on Ahmed
At least 37 Somali presidential guards have been killed and more than 30 others sustained injuries in clashes with al-Shabaab forces.
The fighting began after 13 military vehicles escorting Somalia’s transitional president, Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed, to Afgoy in south Mogadishu, opened heavy fire on civilians, killing nine.
This prompted Al-Shabaab forces to attack the convoy with RPGs and Bazookas destroying four vehicles and killing at least 37 soldiers.
Fifteen al-Shabaab forces were also killed during the fight, according to Press TV correspondent on Tuesday.
Tuesday’s attack was one of the several assassination attempts on Ahmed.
Somalia has been mired in chaos since 1991, when warlords overthrew dictator Mohamed Siad Barre and sparked brutal clan infighting.
