Well-informed sources said on Sunday that the USAID has fully resumed its activity in the capital Sana’a after the return of its staff recently from Washington.

The sources pointed out that a number of the USAID staff had left Sana’a at the end of March after the US Embassy was targeted in a terrorist attack, but the staff returned few days ago after the US State Department decided to dispatch them to Yemen.

The sources were quoted by the state-run 26sep.net as saying that the resumption of the USAID activity will contribute to enhancing its developmental role in implementing and financing a number of projects.

« The projects are in the fields of education, agriculture, and health, as well as in supporting civil organizations, social development fund, public works project, rural roads, decentralization, and the government efforts to fight corruption », said the sources.

In 2006, the total funds provided by the USAID reached $30 million, but they fell down to $8 million only this year, 2008.
