At least 33 Ethiopian soldiers have been killed and about 11 others injured as Islamic Jihad of Somalia attacked an Ethiopian convoy.
Land mine explosions destroyed an Ethiopian military convoy in Yakh Bari Weyne of Lower Shabelle region on Thursday, a Press TV correspondent reported. The convoy was on its way back home.
Ethiopia recalled the column after the United Nations moved to evacuate its peacekeeping forces along the Ethiopia and Eritrea border.
In another attack, gunmen killed at least three policemen in the Taleh district of southern Mogadishu, our correspondent said.
Following the incident, police arrested more than 23 civilians.
Another 42 people have been arrested by the Ethiopian military and government forces in several districts in north Mogadishu.
